The Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan is a private, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, receiving no local, state, or federal funds to pay for operating expenses. We are not affiliated with—nor do we receive funding from—national organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States. Donations, grants, memorials, planned giving, service fees, and fund-raising efforts are our sole sources of income. We operate in a fiscally responsible manner to ensure that our donations benefit our animals.

We rescue and re-home dogs and cats, provide services that educate the public concerning responsible pet ownership, and promote the health and welfare of cats and dogs in our community. You can feel good about donating because we are a no-kill shelter that provides compassionate medical treatment in a loving environment while we search for a forever home for every adoptable animal.

We strive to find a home for each adoptable animal, but some dogs and cats wait a long time before they are adopted. Your funds improve the quality of life for each animal that comes through our doors by providing warm bedding, nutritious food, toys, and vaccinations for preventable diseases. We cannot thank you enough for your support.

Make a one-time or recurring monetary donation. No donation from a business or an individual is too small, because despite our efforts to contain expenses, costs continue to increase every day. We appreciate every donation and use them to benefit our animals.

Donate Supplies

We gratefully accept donations of many items that benefit our animals or assist us with operating the shelter. Clean out your cupboards, get rid of items you aren’t using, or stop by your favorite store and pick up an item or two for us. Ask your friends or family to make us a gift basket instead of buying you another present that may go unused. We are always looking for pet food, office items (copy paper and ink mostly), cleaning and pet supplies, and items to enrich the animals’ environment. Our animals and our staff will greatly appreciate your donation!
